New head for HSBC Private Banking Luxembourg

Mark Winterflood is appointed Head of HSBC Private Banking Luxembourg, effective 5 February 2018, subject to regulatory approval, succeeding Anthony Simcic. Mark will report to Franco Morra, CEO HSBC Private Bank (Suisse) SA and Regional Head Global Private Banking Europe International and MENA, and Lars Rejding, Country CEO HSBC Luxembourg. Mark will join the Executive Committee of HSBC in Luxembourg.

Mark will be responsible for the oversight, leadership and management of HSBC Private Banking in Luxembourg, a market that has seen significant growth over the past several years. Under Mark’s leadership, the private banking subsidiary in Luxembourg will continue to work closely with HSBC’s Commercial Banking and Global Banking businesses in Continental Europe to deliver on the strategy of serving the personal wealth needs of the owners and principals of HSBC’s corporate clients.

The Commission de Surveillance du Secteur Financier (CSSF) has brought ABLV Bank Luxembourg, S. A., the subsidiary of the Latvian bank ABLV Bank, A.S. under protection by filing an application for a suspension of its debit operations with the Luxembourg District Court. 

This decision taken in order to stabilise the situation results from actions taken by the European Central Bank (ECB), according to which temporary settlement restrictions on ABLV Bank, A.S. clients’ debit operations were set on February 19th.
